Erin Schor has built a career in public service in Michigan, devoted to the principle that government should work to ensure that people have a fair shot at the basic things that build a good life.

Erin is the daughter of a public school teacher and a small business owner. Her parents led by example, showing Erin and her siblings that hard work matters and that service to others - whether through church, the local Lions Club, or simply checking on a neighbor - is what builds community.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s in public policy from the University of Michigan, Schor served as the tax and retirement policy expert for the House Democratic Caucus, as legislative director to Rep. Paul Condino as well as his lead staffer as Chair of the Judiciary Committee, and as Chief of Staff to then-House Majority Floor Leader Kathy Angerer. Schor advocated for Michigan’s community colleges for a decade, eventually serving as Vice President of the Michigan Community College Association, and currently serves as the Legislative Policy Director for the Department of State and Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.

She has been proud to be part of successful passage of numerous Michigan laws, including the Michigan Reconnect and Futures for Frontliners scholarship programs, securing insurance coverage for children with autism, banning guns at polling places, and allowing community colleges to offer affordable four-year degrees in certain workforce specialty programs.

Erin Schor has served the Capital area as an elected member of the Ingham Intermediate School Board for the past 12 years, led Lansing’s inaugural Arts and Culture Commission, and chaired the Board of Directors for Impression Five Science Center. She has served on the boards of the Potter Park Zoo Society and Educational Child Care Center. Erin is an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Lansing, where she is an elder and a long time member of the choir and occasional flutist. Schor has also trained as a master gardener volunteer through MSU Extension.

Erin and her husband, Andy, have lived on Lansing’s south side for more than 25 years. Their children, Ryan and Hannah, both graduated from Everett High School in Lansing. Ryan is a precision machinist in Lansing, and Hannah is a college undergraduate. They also have four cats who believe they run the house.
